There are an abundance of shops, cinemas, eateries and pubs all within the city area. Some of the best places, including places to drink are located on second levels so don't be afraid to climb up some stairs. Fortitude Valley better known as "The Valley" is a kind of trendy or alternate part in town with bars, dance clubs, live music, gay clubs as well as an assortment of cafes and restaurants. At night the area can take on a bit of a seedy persona so caution should be used if walking around alone. China Town is also located in this part of town. South Bank's parkland's are just over the Victoria Bridge and are a popular feature. There is a man made beach that is very popular over summer. See things to do. TransportAirBrisbane International and Domestic Airport (www.bne.com.au) is located about 17km northwest of the city. It is serviced by many international airlines with three domestic carriers, Qantas (www.qantas.com.au), Jet Star (www.jetstar.com) the budget arm of Qantas and Virgin Blue (www.virginblue.com.au). All regularly arrive and depart for all major centres throughout Australia. Train Transport to the City is easiest by Airtrain (www.airtrain.com.au) which takes about 20 minutes to reach Brisbane's Roma Street Transit Centre and departs from both the domestic and international terminals for a cost of about $12. Taxis Located in front of the Domestic Terminal on level 2 of the international terminal a fare to Brisbane Central Business District (CBD) from the airport is about $33 depending on route taken, traffic conditions and more, plus a $2 fee for departing taxis . The Loop is a free Council bus service that circles Brisbane's Central Business District. The Loop stops at several destinations including Central Station, Queen Street Mall, City Botanic Gardens, Riverside Centre, QUT and King George Square.

Ferry Brisbane is situated on the Brisbane River. There is an excellent ferry service called City Cat (www.translink.qld.gov.au) that can take you up and down the river. Good for sight seeing and has numerous stops. Timetables are posted at ferry terminals that are pontoons along the river. Ticket prices vary but are around $5 for a daily pass zone 1 and 2, which is the city area. Inter-Terminal Train Service Train connection between the Domestic and International terminals every 15 minutes, fare costs $4 one way. For something different take a look at The Globe Theatre (www.globetheatre.com.au) , Brisbane's only Cult Cinema located at 220 Brunswick Street Fortitude Valley. They play original cult movies such as the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Wizard of Oz.Castlemaine Brewery (www.xxxx.com.au) home of XXXX (four-ex) beer, which is Queenslands beer. There is a 45 minute tour of the factory but this tour is just a formality as it is the beer tasting at the end that is the only reason anyone takes the tour. To locate the factory just look for Mr FOUREX in the skyline or head down Milton Road. Book ahead if you want a tour as they are very popular. Carlton Brewhouse (www.visitfostersvenues.com) located about 35 minutes south of Brisbane in Yatala. A tour followed by beer tasting at the end. Carlton Brews a wide range of beers including, arguably some of the best know ones in Australia such as Crownies, VB (Victoria Bitter) and Stella to name a few. Kookaburra River Queen (www.kookaburrariverqueens.com) is a paddle boat that tours the Brisbane River. Boarding 12 noon daily from Eagle Street Pier for a 12.15pm departure, with an expected 2pm return. Lunch time tours are less expensive than evening ones.
South Bank (www.visitsouthbank.com.au) just over Victoria Bridge it sits on the old Expo 88 site. There are numerous things to do, eat and take in. The main feature is the man-made swimming beach, Streets Beach which overlooks the Brisbane River and Central Business District. It is patrolled by life guards all year round. South Bank also has a super screen 5 x 4 meters where feature sporting events and movies are played for all in attendance..
Roma Street Gardens (www.romastreetparkland.com) the worlds largest subtropical urban garden right in the middle of the city. Just exit the Roma Street Transit Centre and you are there.
City Botanic Gardens are only a 10 to 15 minute walk from the city centre and Central or Roma Street railway stations. You can also get there by catching the Free City loop bus, which stops at Alice and George Street.
Mt Coo-Tha Park Botanic Gardens. The Gardens are about a 15 minute drive from the city accessed via Mt Coo-Tha Road. Free entry and Free car parking. Mt Coo-Tha summit, overlooks the city and is impressive at night.
City Sights bus tours is operated by the Brisbane City Council. The tours takes you through the Brisbane CBD, Southbank area, Chinatown, Spring Hill and Milton. You'll stop at historical and cultural tourist attractions along the way. Tickets are only available from City Sights buses. Fares are $22 for adults or $16 for concessions (includes GST).
