Backpacking in Australia

Rate and Review Hostels in Australia. Let others know how your stay was and see where others think the best hostels are! Rating Guidelines
Backpacking in Australia is very popular. There is an abundance of hostels to choose from although they vary in style greatly from the large city hostels of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to the smaller tropical hostels of far northern Queensland to the working outback farmstays.

Many hostels have great facilities and include swimming pools, pool tables, BBQ, communal living areas, internet and laundry services and many have 24 hour access. Some of the larger hostels sport thier own cafe, and bars that become a backpackers melting pot after dark. If you are looking for work, some hostels even provide a job search service for backpackers.

Select the area you wish to visit and explore the hundreds of backpacker hostels throughout the country. Visit the web sites of each hostel to help decide on where you will stay.

When to Go!
Any time of the year is the right time to see most of Australia. Being such a large country the landscape and weather is diverse. The top end of Australia has a tropical climate while the southern part has a more temperate climate. Even snow skiing is possible in Victoria and New South Wales during winter (June to August).

The summer school holdidays (December to January) are the longest break for the year and also one of the best times to travel. If travelling during this time of year be sure to book accommodation in advance as it can become scarce at the more popular destinations.
