Albert Hall Launceston
Launceston is located on the Tamar river. It has all that is expected from a city of its size of about 68,000 people including museum, restaurants, cafes, parks and gardens. About 10 minutes walk from the city center is the Cataract Gorge with steep cliffs etched by the flow of the river. It is a popular tourist attraction with two walking tracks which take about 15 minutes leading to the first basin which is a popular swimming area during summer. There is also a swimming pool on the southern side of the gorge.
Other attraction around town include Penny Royal Worldwhere you can take a barge ride through the underground Gunpowder Mills, sail on the Sandpiper the 10 gun sloop of war, or travel on the fully restored No. 16 Launceston Tram to the windmill & cornmill. The Queen Victoria Museum & Art Galleryhas one of the best national collections of Australian colonial art, contemporary craft and design, Tasmanian history and natural sciences. Special features include a Chinese Temple and Planetarium. National Automobile Museum is a collection of motor vehicles and motorcycles from the 1900s to the 1990s, the Museum contains over 100 exhibitions which are regularly changed.
