Devonport

Devonport is a harbour town located on the Mersey River. Devonport has cosmopolitan cuisine and excellent shopping including specialist Tasmanian art and craft shops. Many hours can be spent exploring the history and heritage strolling through the parklands along the picturesque waterfront. Devonport has over 20 kilometres of cycle/walkways which will take in local parks, reserves and tourist attractions.

Photographer SynyanDevonport has a number of interesting attractions close to the City centre including Tasmania’s only science discovery centre Imaginarium Science Centre (23 McFie Street), The Maritime Museum (6 Gloucester Ave), Don River Historic Railway (Fourth Main Road, Don), Tiagarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre (Mersey Bluff) and the National Trust property “Home Hill” (77 Middle Road) which used to be the residence Joseph Lyons the only Australian to have been premier of the state and prime minister of Australia.

Devonport is the terminal for the Spirit of Tasmania I and IIwhich crosses Bass Straight between Port Melbourne and Devonport overnight. Spirit of Tasmania III sails between Darling Harbour (Sydney) and Devonport overnight, with the journey taking 22 hours.
