Sixty-five kilometres south east of Brisbane is a tourist Mecca that is the Gold Coast. The region’s 42km coastline stretches from Southport to Coolangatta. The northern end of the Gold Coast (especially Surfers Paradise to Broadbeach) is more commercialized, with plenty of action for backpackers and “schoolies” (school leavers celebrating the end of exams).
